Handmade Kitchens for Bristol Homes

Kitchens are one of the largest projects I take on, and also one of the most personal, as this is the room most households actually live in. I design and build handmade kitchens around how a family cooks and gathers, not around a standard cabinet size taken from a catalogue. That might mean an awkward alcove turned into bespoke cabinets, a run of drawers deep enough for oversized pans, or an island sized to the exact footprint of the room rather than the nearest stock option. Everything is built in solid timber, jointed rather than screwed together where it matters, and finished on site once fitted.

Storage tends to be the deciding factor in how well a kitchen works day to day, so I spend time getting this right before cutting a single board. Bespoke cabinets, deep pan drawers, and larder units are built to the actual dimensions of the room, and I can add dedicated timber storage for chopping boards, trays, or bulkier items that rarely fit standard fittings. The result is a kitchen that holds what a household actually owns, laid out sensibly rather than squeezed in wherever there’s a gap.

Furniture Restoration and Custom Woodwork

Furniture restoration makes up a steady part of my work, usually inherited chairs, tables, or cabinets that a client doesn’t want to lose but that have come loose at the joints or picked up decades of damage. I repair using the same methods the original maker would have used where possible, re-cutting joints rather than relying on glue and screws, and matching timber as closely as I can to the original grain and colour. It’s slower work than building from scratch, but it keeps a piece in use rather than in a skip.

Alongside restoration, I build custom woodwork and bespoke furniture for clients who want something that doesn’t exist on a showroom floor: beds, chairs, media units, fitted wardrobes, and smaller items such as boxes and jewellery boxes made as gifts. Each commission starts with a conversation about how the piece will actually be used, followed by a design that’s discussed and adjusted before any timber is cut. It’s a slower process than buying off the shelf, but the finished item fits the space and the person it’s made for.

My Work in Pictures

Browse the gallery to see recent commissions: fitted kitchens, staircases, restoration projects, and one-off gifts made in the workshop. Photographs show pieces at various stages, including work still in progress, so you can see construction methods as well as the finished result. If you’re weighing up a similar project, this is often the best starting point before getting in touch.
